THE GAME OR SAFETY?

The NFL is trying to crack down on what it calls "hard hits" in the league - over the past weekend, a few guys were concussed (knocked the hell out) during the game -- one hit even reminded a sports announcer of a hit that paralzyed a player some years ago.  I'm wondering what you all think about the League's decisions to suspend and or take money from players for hard flagrant hits...is the money not an issue?  Will it change the game - guys won't know how to play anymore, worrying about accidentally hitting a dude too hard?  Hmm...my thoughts are this:  what if a guy is running at someone full speed, and the other guy, within a second, moves -- the guy didn't intend to hit him in the head, just the shoulder, but instead knocks him out.  My point is, this is tricky -- the League must very carefully and strategically regulate player on-field conduct, without changing the true nature of the game.   Hmmm...just thinking.......

  1. im just worried about referees changing the outcome of the games with this ridiculous rule..also so does this mean they have to trickle dowmn to college and high school, and began treaching another way to tackle in pop warner? I think its a very bad rule that cannot possibly be called right and will hurt some games but after looking at a few games today i dont think the players will ultimately change up tactics and how they play..the game will go on...

  2. Yeah, that's a good point - but isn't that what refs are there for? I mean, not to change the game, but to regulate and make sure rules are abided by and not broken. It is the NFL and other football leaders who are coming together to make these decisions, based on ref calls. It's a hard situation...I think you right tho, players are going to keep doing what they are doing and not be scared by some more regulations. I just hate it when the game stops because they're wasting so much time lookin at plays, blah blah blah.......

  4. The thing is that players are bigger, faster and stronger than ever before. I agree with your point on accidental helmet to helmet hits, the league has to look at that and not fine EVERY hit. There has to be some discretion. Also I take a lead from Warren Sapp, he flat out said James Harrison is wrong on how you are taught to tackle. This past weekend Randy Moss was hit hard as hell with a shoulder and he dropped the ball. You don't have to launch yourself to make a play
